  • Concealed Weapons Permit/Basic Pistol Course
    This course is our Basic Handgun Course, but open to women only. We have found women prefer and learn better in a all women environment. Just like the Basic Handgun course, the two main goals of this class are how to safety operate your handgun, and two, how to effectively stop a threat. Unlike the Basic Handgun course, we spend time to go over situational awareness and personal protection (without a firearm) inside and outside the home. Topics covered ranging from picking the best handgun and accessories for you and your particular needs, handgun nomenclature and operation, ammunition, fundamentals of shooting, and cleaning/maintenance. We also go over Montana State Gun Laws regarding carrying a concealed firearm. Length: 8-9 Hours, usually 9:00AM to 6:00PM Loadout: 50-60 rounds of handgun ammunition
  • Gals & Guns 1.0 Handgun Shooting Safety Course - Ladies Only

  • DSC (Draw, Shoot Clear) Class for Women"
    DSC training sessions for women are offered to our students that have completed the Gals and Guns 1.0 (or if you took the mixed CWP class or any other previous G&G class or basic pistol shooting class). This class is highly recommended as the next step in your handgun training. It is a 3 hour class. You will spend most of the time on the RANGE and limited time in the classroom. We will cover all aspects of the “Draw” from a holster. Therefore, a holster is required for this class. Please be sure to have a holster that can be worn outside the waistband on your strong side, preferable KYDEX material fitted securely with a good belt or a very secure clip that does not allow the holster to become loose from your waistband. Requirements and what to bring: Round count: 200 rounds factory ammo. Please do not bring hand loads to the class. You must complete our Basic Pistol Course at MTFI as a pre-requisite. Semi-Auto handgun with three magazines and a mag holder, (If using revolver, you must have at least 3 speed loaders and carriers for them) Training holster on strong side (preferably Kydex with a sturdy, proper fitting belt), Eye protection & ear protection Ball cap (especially for sun and flying brass) Hydration and snacks Sun block Dress in layers for appropriate weather and include an open jacket or vest for training purposes
  • Women's Intermediate Handgun Course
    Course Prerequisite: You must have successfully completed one of our other handgun courses in order to attend. Course Description: The options are plentiful for ways in which women can carry a firearm. Not all of them are recommended safe practices. During this course we will introduce you to the safest and most effective ways to safely and effectively “draw” your firearm to engage a threat. This is a four (4) hour concealed carry live-fire course which has been designed to help you determine the best way for you to carry and draw a firearm from a purse, fanny pack, inside and outside the waist band, ankle or thigh holster or a shoulder holster. Length: 5-6 Hours, usually 10:00AM to 4:00PM Loadout: 400-500 rounds of handgun ammunition
  • Women's Advanced Handgun Course
    Course Prerequisite: You must have successfully completed one of our other handgun courses in order to attend, or successfully completed a comparable LIVE FIRE pistol course given by a certified instructor. This is not a course for beginners! This is a fast paced course designed to teach you how to engage and survive a violent confrontation. All live-fire shooting drills are conducted from the position you normally carry your personal defense firearm daily. You will learn effective methods for shooting from various types of barricades, tactically load your firearm while moving, clear malfunctions while moving, selecting cover as wells as ground fighting survival shooting techniques. Length: 7-8 Hours Loadout: at least 600 rounds of handgun ammunition
  • Carbine Self Defense Course - Part 1
    Develop the mindset and skills required to safely and effectively use your carbine rifle by understanding how it operates, what types of malfunctions can be anticipated, and being able to problem solve obstacles, which may arise during its use. After a short time in the classroom discussing this and after confirming everyone’s rifle is zeroed in, it’s out to the range! Topics covered include Loading, reloading (speed and tactical), movement (forward, rear, lateral, 90 degrees), shooting from behind/around cover and a vehicle, urban prone, how to clear common malfunctions, as well as other topics based on time and proficiency of the class. Length: 8-9 hours, usually 9:00AM to 6:00PM Loadout: 500-600 rounds of .223/5.56
  • Carbine Self Defense Course - Part 2
    The course curriculum will be supplied to you on the day of the course. The carbine you decide to train with is up to you. Bring the one you are most likely to use in a defensive situation. This is a co-ed class. *This course will be the second installment for those who have completed Carbine 1, and will concentrate on barricades, movement, malfunction clearance and live-fire drills. Length: 8 Hours, usually 10:00AM to 6:00PM Loadout: A minimum of 400 rounds of FMJ ammunition are required for this course. You may bring more ammunition if you would like to shoot more.
  • Semi Auto Handgun Combat Course - Module I
    Handgun 1 is an intermediate level course focused primarily on practical, real world scenarios and skill building for Concealed Carry and home protection. It is great for those who have taken our Basic Handgun/Concealed Weapon’s Permit Course and who want to spend more time on the range. The course will cover drawing, reloading (speed/tactical), clearing malfunctions (Type1-3), movement (forward, rear, lateral), shooting from cover/barricade, and other drills/topics based on speed and desire from the class. This course is best for compact to full sized handguns’ sub-compact or pocket sized carry guns will not fair well. Length: 8-9 hours, usually 9:00AM to 6:00PM Loadout: 500-600 rounds of 9/40/45 ammunition
  • S.T.A.R.S. - Situational Tactics Awareness & Response
    S.T.A.R.S. is a practical and effective self defense system which can be used for various types of threats and conditions. Topics to be covered include: situational/tactical awareness in public places, introduction to human predatory behavior, understanding effective crime prevention tactics, hardening your home from intruders, vehicle security, response to a threat, understanding the transfer of kinetic energy, striking points, blocks, wrist releases, kicks, conventional and improvised self defense tools, OC Pepper Spray and Fast Strike Defense Device introduction.
  • AC3 - Advanced Concealed Carry Concepts
    If you carry concealed, then you should practice how you play. With this concept in mind, we designed our AC3 course. You will learn how to effectively draw and engage a threat as well as reload, all while carrying your firearm in an effective, concealed manner. The course will cover drawing, reloading (speed/tactical), clearing malfunctions (Type1-3), movement (forward, rear, lateral) and shooting from cover/barricade; all from concealment. We encourage students to attend the course with their current concealed carry firearm and do the drills as they carry on a daily basis. This will allow them to figure out if their current system is working for them effectively or not. **One of our Basic Level Courses is a pre-requisite for this course, please sign up directly with Sal by emailing him at sal@mtfi.org.   • Carbine Low Light and Vehicle Defense
    This is an advanced applications course. As such, previous formal carbine training or Law Enforcement experience is required. Any exceptions are handled on a case by case basis.   • S.O.T.A.C.C. - Security Officer's Training And Certification Courses
    Effective October 28, 2017, the Montana State Board of Private Security now requires sixteen (16) hours of formal training per state mandate 24.182.801 for anyone wishing to become a licensed Security Guard in Montana. Our S.O.T.A.C.C curriculum is a board certified mini-academy that covers all topics required by the state in a two-day course. Topics covered in the course, and required by the state include: The role and function of the security guard Federal, state, and local statutes and rules applicable to the practice of private security guards Interaction and cooperation with law enforcement Limitations on the use of force and the use-of-force continuum Emergency procedures and hazardous material preparedness Communication skills, report writing, and radio communication Crisis intervention and crowd control Patrol techniques Confidentiality and right of privacy Searches of persons and property Limitations on the power to arrest and detain suspects Treatment of juveniles, persons with physical or mental disabilities, and other special classes Preservation of a crime scene and handling of evidence Preventing abuse of authority Montana Tactical Firearms Instruction also offers an additional two days of defensive handgun training. Our Combat Handgun 1 is a fourteen (14) hour course which covers topics such as: drawing, reloads, malfunction clearing, movement, cover/concealment, one-handed/weak handed shooting, and much more. Expect to spend the whole day on the range, shooting 1000+ rounds from your duty handgun. New to law enforcement and don’t have a wide knowledge base of handguns or defensive shooting tactics? Not to worry, we will spend the time to get you squared away and comfortable with a handgun that fits you and your needs! S.T.A.R.S. For Security Officers We also offer our popular S.T.A.R.S course specially geared towards security officers and law enforcement officers. The course covers non-firearms and hand-to-hand techniques including (but not limited to) handcuffing, chemical agents, batons, escorting, wrist locks, weapons retention, stripping weapons from others, and much more.
