The answer may surprise you. While a firearm is one option, it is a tool of last resort. Our training emphasizes proactive awareness, non-lethal deterrents, and safe firearm use as part of a comprehensive approach to bear safety in the Montana wilderness.
This course is ideal for hikers, hunters, campers, anglers, outdoor professionals, and anyone who enjoys the backcountry.
Half-Day Course: Bear Awareness and Non-Lethal Defense
Learn how to reduce the risk of bear encounters and handle potential threats without a firearm.
Morning Topics Covered:

Practice with inert bear spray deployment

Recognizing bear habitats and behaviors (Black & Grizzly)

Understanding types of bear attacks and their causes

Use of sundry non-lethal bear deterrents
This portion focuses on prevention, awareness, and non-lethal defense strategies.
Full-Day Course: Includes Firearm Instruction (Afternoon Session)
Extend your training by continuing into the firearms portion of the course in the afternoon.
IMPORTANT: If you wish to participate in the firearms section, you must register for the full-day class—not just the half-day session.

This hands-on training focuses on safe, effective firearm use as a last resort defense option.
